Award-winning author Carolyn Howard-Johnson will be at the Independent Book Publishers Association (Booth #3044) at Javits Center in New York City at 10 am, Thursday, June 7, signing the new expanded and updated edition of her multi award-winning The Frugal Book Promoter: How to get nearly free publicity on your own or by partnering with your publisher.
Endorsed by publishing industry powerhouses like Dan Poynter and Marilyn Ross, The Frugal Book Promoter was the first book in Howard-Johnson’sHowToDoItFrugally series, the inspiration for all the rest including The Frugal Editor and a frugal series for retailers. She has a new Web site (www.HowToDoItFrugally.com) that features both her literary work and her how-to books but it is also designed to give writers resources they want and need for the marketing of their own books.
Howard-Johnson says the first edition of The Frugal Book Promoter was so successful because “it utilized my professional experience as a journalist and marketer, but also shares the practical lessons I learned from marketing my own fiction and poetry—the hardest genres of all to promote. ” She wrote it to use as recommended reading when she first taught classes at UCLA Extension’s world-renowned Writer’s Program. “There were no how-to books out there practical enough—detailed enough—for new authors who don’t have a background in marketing or journalism,” she says.
Howard-Johnson was named Woman of the Year in Arts and Entertainment by the 43rd and 44th District of the California Legislature. Her first novel,This is the Place, and her book of creative nonfiction, Harkening: A Collection of Stories Remembered, are both multiple award winners. She speaks frequently, is an instructor for UCLA Extension Writers’ Program and has appeared as both a guest and in commercials on TV and in hundreds of radio stations nationwide and on the Web.
The author’s first book in the HowToDoItFrugally series was named USA Book News’ Best Professional Book and given the Book Publicists of Southern California’s Irwin Award. The new Edition is already a USA Book News winner.
