Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself! I was lucky enough to grow up in the beautiful Napa Valley. I was also lucky enough to grow up in the beautiful Napa Valley with a haunted barn behind me 🙂 #explainsSOmuch
Tell us about your book? How did it get started? I love James Patterson and I love thrillers so when I decided to write one, I wanted it to be unique and blow the genre out of the water. This story really flowed for me because I know what I love about the genre and I really wanted it to be dark and gritty and keep you up at night (or constantly looking over your shoulder). That’s how “Plain Jane” came to be. A unique profiler. A unique serial killer. A crackling sexual tension between the leads. What else could you want from a mystery/thriller.
How do you create your characters? I know what I need from my characters. I knew I wanted an FBI profiler that was nearly as unbalanced as the serial killers he hunts. I knew that I wanted him smokin’ hot because, well, why not? LOL
What inspires you to write? Um… I am not so much inspired as driven. I have so many stories in my head that writing is the only thing keeping me sane (or at least more sane than normal). 🙂 I also usually have a slogan in my head for the tone of the piece. For “Plain Jane” it was “a Patterson-style thriller with a dash of Hannibal.” Hopefully I fulfilled that premise.
What do you like to read? Everything that I write is what I read. Usually a story is inspired by reading something that SHOULD have been good, but wasn’t. I start chewing that over in my head until I see how it WILL be great, then I start writing.
What would your advice to be for authors or aspiring in regards to writing? Write. Stop whining and write. I could wax on and on about the subject but that is what it boils down to. Shut up and write. If you want more where that came from, just hit up @writingnodrama, my writing advice stream.
Anything else you’d like to share? I love Amber Scott (author of my competitor, “Fierce Dawn), I really do. She is a dear friend and co-founder of the Indie Book Collective. However… I want to kick her you-know-what. Badly. I mean, I’ve got a down and dirty serial killer up against some silly winged creature? #please So head on over to my blog and comment on “Plain Jane,” and help me pummel, I mean beat, Amber! Plus for every relevant new comment you get a FREE ebook of “Plain Jane” and you get entered to win a free Kindle! #win #win #wellexceptforAmber 🙂
