Blurb: Zoey Handler is ready to put an end to her decade-long rivalry with Gordon Meyers. They’ve traded top spot between valedictorian and salutatorian for years, but all that’s over now. Right? But after a crazy graduation speech prank gets out of hand, suddenly their rivalry turns into all-out war. Time to make peace with a little friendly payback.

Step one? Make him believe they’re now friends.

Step two? Show him the time of his life at an epic graduation party.

Step three? Don’t fall for his tricks.

Step four? Absolutely, positively, do not kiss him again.

So what if he’s cute? (Okay, hot.) So what if he’s charming? (Heaven help her, tempting.) So what if he apologizes? (That has to be fake.) She knows the real Gordon. And no matter how much her heart begs her to stop, there’s no turning back.

Author bio: Molly E. Lee is an author and editor best known for her debut novel EDGE OF CHAOS, and as a fourth year mentor at Pitch Wars – a program which connects promising writers to established authors in the community. In addition to being a military spouse and mother of two + one stubborn English Bulldog, Molly loves watching storms from her back porch at her Midwest home, and digging for treasures in antique stores.

Interview

Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself!

Hi! Thank you so much for having me! I’m Molly E. Lee, author of the Grad Night Series and the Love on the Edge series!

I’m from Kansas, but currently residing in Nebraska. (Military spouse, we’ve lived all over!) I have two amazing toddlers, and one stubborn English bulldog! I’m an avid reader, a proud Ravenclaw, and a Lady of the Night Court. I’m addicted to coffee, chocolate, and Deadpool.

Tell us about your book? How did it get started?

Love Between Enemies is the second standalone in the Grad Night Series. It’s the same epic grad night party, but from the perspective of Zoey and Gordon—the enemies you got a glimpse of in Love in the Friend Zone (book one). The idea came while I was collaborating with my amazing editor, Stacy. We thought it would be so awesome to have three books span across one epic party and see how all the stories and characters connected!

How do you create your characters?

Usually, they come to me with their own voices, likes, and personalities. I know this makes me sound a little crazy, but I honestly can’t explain the process in technical terms. Sometimes I’ll get halfway through the book and learn something new about my character because they never chose to tell me about that particular detail. It’s a process that evolves during writing, and that is why I always have at least two drafts before I feel it’s complete.

What got you started in writing?

I fell in love with reading before I could actually read. I was lucky that my mother read to me all the time, and I developed a deep love for stories. By the time I was in second grade, I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. An author. My teacher had given us a new assignment—write and illustrate our own stories into little hardback books. Now, I couldn’t draw, but I did fall totally in love with the process of creating a story (mine was about aliens), and after that, I was hooked. I’ve never wanted to be anything else, and I’m beyond grateful I get to live my dream.

Where do you write? Is there something you need in order to write (music, drinks?)

I write everywhere—I have two toddlers who keep me busy during the day, so I have to sneak paragraphs in whenever and wherever I can (which means sometimes my chapters are written on the kitchen counter lol). Mainly, I’ll write after the babies are asleep. That’s when I get to go into my office, put my R2D2 headphones on, listen to the book’s special playlist, and just write it out.

What do you like to read?

I love to read across all genres. I’m super into young adult fantasy right now and would love to write one someday! I also try to read as much as possible in the genre I’m currently writing, so lately it’s been a good amount of young adult contemporary or adult romance.

What would your advice to be for authors or aspiring in regards to writing?

 Read.

Read all the time.

As much as you can.

Especially in whichever genre you’re trying to break into. Also read books on craft. Developing your skills never stops. I still read books on craft, plot development, character sketches, etc. And I know I will long into the future. You’re never finished learning about writing a good story. There is always something new to discover about your style.

Also, don’t give up. This business can deliver some tough blows as well as incredible highs. If you have a fire in your heart to write a book…do it and don’t let anything stop you.

Thank you so much for having me! It was fun chatting with you!
