Mere Passion by Daisy Harris

You’re going to get bored with me if I keep starting my reviews with “Wow”! But I just happened to have read two really fantastic books in a row here on P&M. One was, of course, Poisoned Kisses by Stephanie Draven. And the second was Mere Passion by Daisy Harris.

Now, this is the second book in a series, which I knew before I read it, although I hadn’t read the first book. But it was one of the only second-in-a-series books that I could come in on the second book and not always feel behind. It could be because Daisy Harris deals with different species in each of the books, so all the world-building is new. But I think it’s also because she doesn’t oversell the world itself. And for once, the two minor characters (who apparently made a reappearance from a previous book) were pretty much as engaging to me as the two major characters.

The world Daisy Harris creates is a truly unique one, full of a race of mer-people, dragons, shark-shifters, vampires, and succubi. It was a wild ride. And the sex? Well, this is an erotic romance after all. The sex was fantastic. Unique. In fact, the very first sex scene between the main hero and heroine was one of the most interesting and erotic sex scenes I’ve ever read in an ero-rom novella.

But by far, the best part of this book was the characters. The heroine is a take-charge, no-nonsense, kinda half slutty badass. And I *loved* her. And the hero? Even better. The heroine is this firebrand, unpredictable, wild woman, but the hero is a stoic, old-fashioned, deep-feeling alpha male. They are the yin to one another’s yang. Literally. They’re both a little tortured, and very complex. But they’re mostly just full of the awesome. This is definitely going on my keeper shelf.

Hats off to Daisy Harris. I’m definitely gonna be following her career. I hear there’s a sequel due out soon… 🙂

I love-love-love, Daisy Harris’ new series. The stories are fast paced and will reach a wide audience with her blend of the paranormal and sc-fi! And the heat! Woo-Hoo!!! Loved it!
