Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself!
I am born and raised in Memphis, TN. I am a wife, a mother and the product of a huge family. I love writing because it is my passion.
Tell us about your book? How did it get started?
My book is titled, Ms. Nice Nasty: Cam’s Confession and it is a special edition to the first book, Ms. Nice Nasty.
Ms. Nice Nasty is about a lawyer, Camille Shannon, who enjoys spending time with others outside of her marriage. She doesn’t see anything wrong with it but when it starts to affect her life and her career, she has some choices to make.
In Cam’s Confession, we get to see a more personal side to her. She finally opens up about her past which lets us in on why she is the way she is.
How do you create your characters?
With my first book, the characters were inspired by the personality of my friends and I’ve stuck with that. Once I have an idea on how I want the character, I let my imagination take over.
What inspires and what got you started in writing?
I am inspired by the simply fact, God gave me a gift to be able to write. I initially started off with devotionals, then a devotional blog which then manifested into a book. Once I completed the devotional book, I had a wild idea to write fiction and I love it.
Where do you write? Is there something you need in order to write (music, drinks?)
I write wherever I am comfortable. Usually it’s in my big chair or wherever I find some peace and quiet.
How do you get your ideas for writing?
When I sit down to write, I simply let my imagination decide. I can sometimes sit and watch people and an idea will come to me about a scene or chapter and it goes from there.
What do you like to read?
I love any genre of writing. My absolute favorite is murder mystery. I also love romance.
What would your advice to be for authors or aspiring in regard to writing?
To never give up on your dream. Becoming an author is hard work and it’s easy to give it up (especially when you’re just starting out) but don’t! I always tell people, don’t ever allow the ink to run dry in your pen! The only person who can keep you from reaching your goal is you.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I am currently working on Ms. Nice Nasty 2 so I hope you will take the time to get to know Lakisha, the author.
