The Author – Megan Futcher
I was born in suburban South Africa to a family of dedicated bibliophiles. From the
moment I was able to write a full sentence I was dabbling around with words, creating
stories out of the fictional worlds and the characters that lived on in my imagination.
My novels and novellas dive into an unknown world before recorded history and I love
asking the ‘what if’ question while I create and write a fantasy spin on human evolution.
The decision I made to ‘go indie’ started with me opening a new project in Scrivener for
Linux, from there my eyes have been opened to so many fantastic possibilities. I’m a
massive supporter of letting the creative mind go wild and indie publishing is such a
great way to express oneself freely. I’ve met so many amazing people on my journey so
far and the knowledge I’m gaining along the way is invaluable and I can only see it
expanding as the indie revolution across all industries explodes in the coming future.
Along with reading everything I can get my hands on, I’m an enthusiastic gamer (who is
determined to get over FPS – first person sickness). I also love movie date nights, yoga
and cooking for my family and friends.
I currently live in Perth, Western Australia with my Trekkie husband, Andy.

Interview:

Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself!

Born in suburban South Africa to a family of dedicated bibliophiles I currently live in Perth, Western Australia. I’m a proud introvert and right from the moment I was able to write a full sentence I’ve been dabbling around with words, creating stories out of the fictional worlds and the characters who live on in my imagination.

Tell us about your book? How did it get started?

Fourborn Wind and Fire dives into an unknown world before recorded history where I ask the ‘what if’ question while creating a fantasy spin on human evolution. I was working on a Norse fantasy when the idea for Wind and Fire and the world around it started to take shape in my mind. Unable to think about anything else, I opened a new Scrivener project and dived straight in.

How do you create your characters?

I believe every story should have a hero, a heroine and a villain of some kind. With that idea in mind, I create a story and the characters just seem to materialism along with it.

What inspires and what got your started in writing?

Reading everything I can get my hands on, my husbands wild imagination and the characters who live in my inside me are definitely things that inspire me.

Like I mentioned in the question above, I’ve always been one for words but moving to Australia in 2010 set about a massive change in my personal and professional life which made me finally decide to take my writing more seriously.

Where do you write? Is there something you need in order to write (music, drinks?)

I write in a study while the tunes of inspirational movie soundtracks play in a loop.

How do you get your ideas for writing?

My ideas come from the experiences and thoughts I have while living.

What do you like to read?

My love of reading extends to a diverse range of genes including – fantasy, historical fiction, science fiction and the supernatural. People and cultures have always fascinated me too and I enjoy thumbing through heavy books on anthropology and archaeology.

What would your advice to be for authors or aspiring in regards to writing?

Write and read something every single day and no matter how many times your mind tells you to  – don’t give up!
