Blog Tour:

For Claire

by Amelia Swan

Claire is dreading her 30th birthday…until she finds out Jay is flying out to help her and Dylan celebrate. Armed with a new dress and a carefree attitude, Claire is ready for whatever the big night may bring.

It’s been three months since the last time Jay met up with the married couple he’s grown so fond of. When he finds out Claire’s birthday is coming up, he jumps at the opportunity to see them again.

Jay and Dylan are hoping to give Claire a birthday she’ll never forget, but she ends up getting so much more…
What would make Claire’s 30th birthday a memorable event? A night in bed with her husband and their lover.

Excerpt One:

With two fingers, Dylan shoved the envelope a few more inches in my direction and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “This will brighten your spirits, I promise.”

I perked up as his lips lingered against my skin. I ran my thumb under the envelope’s flap, ready for whatever bit of birthday cheer awaited me inside. To my surprise, it wasn’t a bright, glittery card with a sappy poem or a jab at my age. Instead, I pulled out two pieces of hastily folded together white paper.

Confused, I looked up at Dylan as I unfolded the papers. “You know what this is all about?”

He nodded, his blue eyes practically glowing with excitement. “Just open it.”

Flattening the sheets out on the counter, I frantically scanned the travel itinerary that had been printed out and sent to me, my heart thumping with anticipation as soon as I realized what was going on. “Jay’s coming to visit on my birthday!”

Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself!
I’m from Northern New Jersey, and I’ve lived here my whole life. My husband and I just bought a house, which has been very exciting (and exhausting). We share it with our cat and dog. Eventually, a few kids will live here to. We’re currently in the process of becoming registered as adoptive parents.

Tell us about your book? How did it get started?

“For Claire” is the second story in a three part series. It explores the relationship between Claire, her bisexual husband Dylan, and his ex-boyfriend Jay. In this installment, Jay flies out to New York City to celebrate Claire’s birthday with the married couple. The last time they’d all met, things had gotten pretty steamy. This time Claire finds herself feeling more deeply for Jay than she ever imagined she would.

How do you create your characters?

I usually start by giving my female leads a personality trait or interest of mine. I find that it’s easier to write from their perspective if I can identify with them. From there, I craft and rework the characters as my story grows. Sometimes I know more about the characters than I do plot when I start writing something. Sometimes it’s the other way around.

What inspires and what got your started in writing?
A few years ago, I was working as a high school English teacher and not having a great time. I was getting bounced around from school to school, and politics of education were grating on my nerves. I always liked my time with my students, but everything else about the job was a drag. That lit a fire under me. I’d been saying since high school that I wanted to write a book, and I finally had a solid reason to give it a go. If I could write a book and make some money writing, I could get out of the education field.

Where do you write? Is there something you need in order to write (music, drinks?)

I’m not picky. My couch is my favorite place to write, but I write just as well when I’m jotting down a couple things in the car. I always have something to drink on hand. Either decaf coffee or water.
How do you get your ideas for writing?

For the most part, they just come to me. I brainstorm during the pockets of time during the day when I don’t have something else occupying my mind. Sometimes my ideas are born out of real-life experiences of my own or people I know.

What do you like to read?

I always have a romance loaded on my Kindle to read. I also really like comic books, especially the ones from Vertigo. My husband and I share an Audible account, and we pick out books to listen to. We usually stick to YA and fantasy. As a former American literature teacher, I also really like the classics. Vonnegut and Fitzgerald are my favorites.

What would your advice to be for authors or aspiring in regards to writing?

Read as much as you can in any genre. I learn so much from reading other people’s work. And be patient. Things aren’t going to happen as quickly as you want them to.
Anything else you’d like to share?

I’d just like to thank everyone.
