The Perfect Lap

by Sedona Hutton

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

His job is to drive fast. Hers is to put the brakes on him. When sparks fly, will love cross the finish line?

AJ Ryan is a publicity nightmare. After a questionable photo surfaces and his biggest sponsor threatens to pull out, the NASCAR champion admits it might be time to hit the brakes. Thankfully, his new no-nonsense image consultant knows just where to start… too bad she revs his engine so loudly he can barely think straight.

Ella Fisher’s career is a welcome distraction from her poor taste in men. Fresh off another easily avoidable heartbreak, rehabbing AJ’s career is just the diversion she needs. But when the pulse-pounding client actually listens to her advice, Ella wonders if there’s more to the man behind the hot mess.

When Ella is granted guardianship of three boisterous children under the misconception that she and AJ are a couple, AJ surprises her by going along with the charade. Before long they find themselves in a make-shift family that feels more real than pretend.

As their professional relationship takes a hard turn for the personal, a single overheard conversation could make it all go up in flames. Will Ella and AJ’s romance hit the wall, or will love take the checkered flag?

The Perfect Lap is the second standalone novel in the Racing Hearts of Serenity romance series. If you like bad boys with a heart of gold, strong women, and love stories with a new age twist, then you’ll adore Sedona Hutton’s fun, sexy tale.

Excerpt One:

“I bet you have a beautiful smile,” he drawled, then lowered his mouth to hers.

She should have pulled away—she didn’t know this man from Adam. But everything inside her protested. After gazing into each other’s eyes, she felt like she knew him intimately.

His lips were warm and tingly, his kiss pure perfection…and he drew back way too quickly. He blinked those deep blue eyes and gave her a lazy grin. “I knew it.” He rubbed the pad of his thumb over her lower lip. “Beautiful.”

That’s when she realized she was smiling.

He rose, and she gave him a quick once over, taking in the sexy stubble on his face, the taut muscles of his chest, his lean physique. As good old-fashioned lust rolled through her like a quick-moving thunderstorm, she silently bemoaned her situation. This was a hell of a time to have a newly implemented man-ban.

“Keep smiling.” Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he winked at her. “It suits you,” he added in that low, sexy drawl. Then he sauntered off.

Her breath caught as she spun around to gape at him. He’d just kissed her and now he was leaving? She contemplated calling him back, then reconsidered. She had other fish to fry.

Even so, she couldn’t stop herself from tracking his every move as he swaggered toward the party, his backside looking every bit as fine as the rest of him. Pressing a hand to her chest, she let out a slow exhale. Even though she was one-hundred percent committed to her man-ban, she could admit—at least to herself—that the sexy, charming stranger had intrigued her.

Interview:

What would we find under your bed?

My dog, Milkduds, and probably a dog toy or two.

What was the scariest moment of your life?

It’s a tossup between our house fire and a motorcycle accident. With both, family members and I could have easily lost our lives. Instead, they offered opportunities for significant growth.

Thanks to a neighbor who saw smoke billowing from our attached garage, my family and most of our pets made it out of a devastating fire that took our home and all of our belongings. It’s a humbling experience to find yourself with absolutely nothing more than the clothes on your back. It was a difficult time for my family and I, but the fire also gave us the opportunity to learn what’s really important. I was so grateful that my family made it out safely that I didn’t care about our stuff. The fire made me realize that stuff is just stuff. These days while I appreciate my belongings, I recognize it for what it is: stuff that I could easily live without.

The motorcycle accident was another terrifying experience. I was on the back of our bike when a car pulled out of a parking lot, barreling into our path. With oncoming traffic and cars in front of and behind us, there was no place to go. My husband maneuvered around traffic the best he could, but the car slammed into the back of the bike where I was sitting. I sustained injuries to my right foot and leg. All things considered, we were very lucky. After the storm comes a rainbow…While recovering from the accident, I received ongoing bursts of story inspiration and the plot for my debut novel, Cloud Whispers sprang to life.

Do you listen to music while writing? If so what?

I love music but I don’t listen to it while writing because I find it distracting.

What is something you’d like to accomplish in your writing career next year?

I would love to build a larger following for my Peace, Love, and Joy blog. Stop by and check it out at: https://sedonahutton.com/blog.

How long did it take you to write this book?

About 6 months, including my editing processes with my editor and proofreader.

Are you a full-time writer? If not, do the people you work with know you’re a writer?

Great cover. How did the cover change through original concept to final product?

Hi Bernie – Thanks for stopping by the tour. I worked with Hell Yes Design to create the cover. We were looking for the same look and feel as to what they created for my Nora’s Promise cover. Given this, it only took a few iterations to get to the final product. Thanks for your question, and I hope you’re having a wonderful week! Sedona

What type of research did you do for this book?

Reply
Sedona Hutton 08/28/2019 - 9:00 pm

Hi Kim – Great question! A lot of my research for this story was NASCAR related. Even though I’m a big fan and watch most of the races, I did research on the drivers, spotters, crew teams, stats, specific tracks, etc. to ensure my race scenes and race talk was accurate. I also did Native American research since Ella is part Native American. Finally, I researched fostering kids and guardianship, as well as several new-age parenting topics since Ella and AJ care for three children as a part of the story. Thanks for stopping by the tour. Have a great evening! Sedona
