This is the story of Abhi, a brave young girl who dares to be different. As she follows the call of her adventurous spirit, she encounters inspiring creatures of the jungle who remind her to face her fears, recognize the beauty of the present moment, and walk the path less travelled.
Mom always tells me, “You need to slow down, and dress up like a princess, wearing your crown.”
Silly Mom, if only she knew. I don’t want to be pretty, and part of the queue. I have so many adventures to create and pursue.
I’d rather be wild and do things that shock her, than dress up in a gown, feeling improper.
Abhi’s my name, and adventure’s my game. My heart is open and it cannot be tamed.
Whatever the quest, I’m up for the mission. Limitless wonder, or focused expedition.
Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself!
I was born in Vancouver and spent the majority of my life living in Calgary and Toronto. I love spending time outside, and I especially love paddle boarding, hiking, and climbing. During the colder months, I spend most of my free time reading and writing.
What do you like to read?
I mostly enjoy reading non-fiction. I consider myself a lifelong learner, and I frequently choose to read up on subjects I am interested in studying. I also enjoy reading captivating novels and will forever be a sucker for poetry and poetry books.
Tell us about your book? How did it get started?
The Tiger Like Me is a story about a young girl who embraces her eccentric spirit. She comes from a large family with seven sisters, and she doesn’t like the perception of being one of the sisters, as if she’s a number in the queue. She wants to be her own person, and in so doing, she feels she has something to prove to herself. She is lively, spirited, friendly, and non-discriminatory. Abhi recognizes that everyone and everything is different, and it’s those differences that make us all beautifully unique.
The idea to write The Tiger Like Me came from a dream I had about a brave little girl who loved to explore. My recollection of the dream is vague, although I felt that sharing this little girl’s story was relevant. One day I sat down at my laptop intending to channel the energy of that character in my dream, and the theme of the book began to unfold organically.
Where do you write? Is there something you need in order to write (music, drinks?)
My favorite space to write is outside. While in nature, I feel free and open to receiving creative energy, which is where I gain a lot of ideas and inspiration for my work.
