Book Blurb:

Their new home on Frederick Street in Clay Center, Kansas, was supposed to give writer Jonathan David and his husband, clinical psychologist Dr. Eddie Dorman, an opportunity to enjoy married life. Jonathan has just released his first major bestseller, and he hopes to finally escape his traumatic past and find the quiet existence he has always craved. Eddie has taken a job at the Kansas State University psychology department, and they intend to begin anew.

They have barely settled in when the nightmare begins. Noises, disembodied voices, and mysterious apparitions make Jonathan’s life hell. Part of the house has decided to bare its teeth, show its jagged edges, and bring back the worst of Jonathan’s past. At first, Eddie cannot perceive the spectral events and fears for his husband’s sanity. When he’s also affected by the haunting, he’s unsure of what to do but refuses to be beaten.

Together, they seek a way to fight the forces trying to tear them apart. The world is a frightening place, but confronting their fears plunges Jonathan and Eddie into absolute horror.

Author Bio:

F.E. Feeley Jr was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and lived there for twenty years before joining the military. He is a veteran of the US Armed Services; having done a tour in support of Operation Iraq Freedom in 2002-2003, he turned college student, pursuing a degree in political science. He now lives in Southeast Texas where he is engaged to the love of his life, John, and where they raise their 1½ year old German shepherd, Kaiser.

As a young man, reading took center stage in his life, especially those novels about ghosts, witches, goblins, and all the other things that went bump in the night. His favorite authors include such writers as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Anne Rice, whose work allowed him to travel to far off places and meet fascinating and scary characters. As a gay man, he wishes to be able to write good fictional literature for those who love the genre and to write characters that readers can relate to. All in all, he is a cigarette smokin’, whiskey drinkin’, rock and roll lovin’, tattoo wearin’ dreamer of a man with a wonderful partner who puts up with his crap and lets him write his stories.

Interview

Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself!

I was born and raised in Detroit and lived there for twenty years.  When people find that out they usually ask, “Have you been to 8 mile?” and I respond with, ‘Sure, its passed 7 mile and before 9 mile.’ Which usually makes me chuckle and makes them stare at me blankly, to which I roll my eyes and change the subject. Anyway, tell you something about me…hmmm..Well, I’ll tell you what I like, perhaps you can establish who I am off of that. I am a avid reader, student of political science and history, gay, married to a wonderful man, cook (always on the lookout for recipes *hint hint*), full time writer, music junkie, movie buff, laundry washer, whiskey drinker (Johnny Walker Black Label) etc. etc. I have a two year old German Shepherd named Kaiser, I love being near water, even though I am a fire sign, I am a wanna be computer nerd, blogger, and I love…I LOVE…ghost stories.

Tell us about your book? How did it get started?

‘Objects in the Rearview Mirror’ was my husband’s idea. It’s based in part, on Meatloaf’s song off his Bat of Hell cd. The song always gave me the chills when I heard it and since it was the very first album I got, I hold it in a special place in my heart. He told me I should write about a writer and I, like in the opening scene, was driving around when the song came on one of my various CD’s that I created. I have a horrible habit, or so says my husband, of not labeling the disks that I make so you could end up with just about anything. The song came on the radio and it got me to thinking about the things we try to leave behind us and being a horror writer, I wondered how I could translate that and that is how this book was born.

How do you create your characters?

Writers pull from what they know, who they know, its hard enough trying to name your character alone. That task is difficult in of itself. So writers really don’t dream up a certain person from thin air, its either someone they know, themselves, or a combination of people.

What inspires and what got your started in writing?

I used to win scary story contests at the high school I went to when I was a kid.  I was the winner two years in a row and since then, have always enjoyed writing, be it for school or correspondence what have you… It wasn’t until much later, after higher education, that I had a vocabulary to go along with what I had observed about life, that I could sit down and tell a story. My husband and I were going through some rough patches, not between us just stuff that comes along in life, and he encouraged me to sit down and write.  So I did and that’s how it all started.

Where do you write? Is there something you need in order to write (music, drinks?)

In the spring/summer I’ll write out on my porch armed with a pack of cigarettes, coffee, soda, and my laptop.  In the cooler months I work in the kitchen. Yet wherever I am, I constantly have music playing from Opera, to showtunes (Phantom is my faveroite), Rock and Roll, country, I am a huge P!nk fan, huge Adele Fan, Love Kenny Chesney, love just about anyone who can tell me a story through either books or music.

How do you get your ideas for writing?

I constantly have dialogue going on in my head.  If I listen to a song, Ill have a music video of how I think it should have been directed, playing in my brain. So there is always something rolling around in there.  Every once in awhile, something will beg me to put it down either in book form or on my blog, and that’s how it begins. Music, politics, socio economic concerns, whatever…something will throw up its hands and say, “HEY!! PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!.”

What do you like to read?

I love all sorts of books including but not limited to, m/m, horror, biographies, history books, contemporary, you name it.

What would your advice to be for authors or aspiring in regards to writing?

Write. That’s where it is. If you’re a writer, then write. Its like pushups, the more you do, the better you get at it.  There is no great secret, no decoder ring you must order, DO NOT pay for your work to be published…simply write. Write what you think, write what you feel, in essence, write for you.  Worry about all the other stuff later. It isn’t easy, but nothing in life worth having or a goal worth reaching, ever is.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I hope you enjoy “Objects” as it was a joy for me to write.  I love talking to people so, by all means, contact me. I’d love to hear from you and listen to your thoughts and ideas and yes, even criticism if it’s constructive.  If it isn’t and you just want to rant, do me a favor, save the drama for your mama. Or if you think you can do a better job, don’t tell me, show me. Otherwise you can reach me here and I look forward to hearing from you:  https://www.facebook.com/TheHauntingOfTimberManor and here http://fefeeley412.wordpress.com/
