Must Read

Denise Alicea

This blog was created by Denise in September 2008 to blog about writing, book reviews, and technology. Slowly, but surely this blog expanded to what it has become now, a central for book reviews of all kinds interviews, contests, and of course promotional venue for authors, etc

If you like mystery, then you will love Nearly Departed in DeadWood by Ann Charles. Charles brings together love, mystery, and the paranormal all into one. I enjoyed reading about her main character Violet Parker. Although it was a fast read for me, Charles makes it fun to walk with Parker’s shoes. Charles also makes it fun to walk in Deadwood itself has very much brought the town to life for readers. So those of you will get to know Deadwood from the Black Hills. I also love the main character, you immediately fall in love with her tenacity and her spunk. I also love how the cover of the book portrays her as ready to take on the challenge. This is a book you will have to read in one sitting because once I started, I found that I couldn’t leave Deadwood or Violet’s adventures. So be ready to sit down and keep turning that page! With colorful characters and witty dialogue, this is a book sure to please all fans of mystery, romance and the paranormal. I hope to have Charles continue with Deadwood because I am sure there are many tales to tell.

Book Blurb:

The first time I came to Deadwood, I got shot in the ass.–Violet Parker

Irony is having a big ol’ fiesta and Violet Parker is the piñata.  Little girls are vanishing from Deadwood, South Dakota, and Violet’s daughter could be next.  Short on time and long on worry, she’s desperate to find the monster behind the abductions.  But with her jerkoff co-worker trying to get her fired, a secret admirer sending creepy love poems, and a sexy-as-hell stranger hiding skeletons in his closet, Violet just might end up as one of Deadwood’s dearly departed.

This is one of those rare books that I have been able to read more than once. I laughed, and I was surprised with the ending.

I got a taste of the book from a co worker and was immediately drawn into the world of Deadwood. I really like the main character as well.

I loved reading Nearly Departed in Deadwood and recommended it to my book club. They have been gobbling it up. I can't wait for our review night on May 10th. I think we'll all agree we are Violet Parker fans. Great review!

I haven't read it yet, but now have it on my TBR list. I was already curious with the tag line alone, but I'm sold on reading it if you've had such a good reading experience with it. Sounds like it could be a great read.

Thanks for the review!
