Savvy Authors is Seeking Workshops for the Remainder of 2013 and 2014

Savvy Authors, a website for authors in all genres, is accepting proposals from interested instructors and presenters for our 2013/2014 education program. We are seeking in-depth, well-structured workshops that address the needs of both beginning and advanced students in the areas of craft, promotion, publishing and areas of expertise of interest to writers. We are open to a range of teaching styles including forum and chat based mixtures. Our workshops are conducted via a bulletin board based forum that can function like an email loop or list. We can also accommodate webinars, Skype, and Podcasting. 

 

At this time we are accepting proposals for workshops of all lengths including 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks, and 3 to 5-day intensives on a tightly focused topic. All workshops are open to anyone regardless of membership in Savvy Authors. Our stipend structure accommodates a flat fee structure as well as a split of the class fees. Savvy Authors is open to considering first time workshop presenters. 

 

Preference will be given to instructors willing to present exclusively for Savvy Authors in scheduling and stipend percentage.  Preferene will also be given to new workshops (never before presented online) or workshops that haven’t been presented online in the 18 preceeding presentation with Savvy Authors.  For all other workshops we ask for a commitment to not present the workshop online within 3 months of presention through Savvy Authors.

 

Instructors and presenters will be asked to provide a complete course promotion package, including a finished course précis, syllabus, bio, book blurb and either a cover graphic or picture of themselves, within 2 weeks of notification of selection.

 

Your proposal MUST specifically include:

 

1.      Class Title and Length

 

2.      Target Audience (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or Mixed)

 

3.      Prerequisites if any

 

4.      Cap on class size, if any

 

5.      Description and Syllabus

 

6.      Presenter Bio (including relevant experience and education)

 

7.      Availability to Present

 

8.      Degree of Instructor Involvement (e.g, will there be assignments and will they be reviewed individually or only as examples)

 

9.      Is this workshop is currently scheduled for anytime in 2011 or 2012? If so provide the dates and sponsor.

 

10.    Email Address

 

11.    Payment preference – PayPal (Note:  PayPal will charge a fee of approximately 3.5%) or check along with the email or mailing address for same.

 

For each class we will provide a detailed accounting of the class listing participants and amount paid by each.  You will receive the class roster and accounting, in general, within one to three weeks after the class starts depending on the length of the class.  The time between start and receipt of accounting is to allow for drop outs and late registrations.  The stipend, unless otherwise specified is 50% of fees plus a yearly membership . Memberships are valued at $30 apiece.  You are provided with one membership per year. 

 

Savvy Authors requires 10 participants to present the class.  A lower minimum is at the discretion of the author.  Higher minimum attendance is negotiable on a case by case basis.

 

We will send payment via paypal or check on a 15 day net following the end of class.  That means that you should receive the payment via PayPal or a check drawn on our bank (PNC) approximately 15 days after the last day of your class.  PayPal payments are processed by PayPal the same day – in general.  Checks are scheduled to arrive as close to 14 days after the last day of class as possible, but vagaries in US mail are always a possibility and totally outside of our control.  Therefore, if you need a more firm date for payment, the PayPal option is the best choice.

 

Each presenter will be required to providea W-9 regardless of anticipated earnings. 

 

We make every effort to promote the workshops as widely as possible and ask our instructors to do the same. Therefore we also ask our instructors to guest blog 2-4 weeks prior to the workshop as a part of the promotion for same.  We also encourage you to offer a chat prior to the workshop as well as a chat as a part of the workshop experience.

 

Prospective and interested instructors and presenters are STRONGLY encouraged to visit Savvy Authors and to ask all questions before submitting a proposal.
