The Psychology of Creating Characters
Presented by Laurie Campbell
Author Laurie Campbell will be teaching a day-long workshop, The Psychology of Creating Characters, on November 19, 2011. Sponsored by Connecticut Romance Writers (CTRWA), the event will be held at the North Haven Holiday Inn from 8:30- 5 PM. It is open to the public and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. The cost is $75 for CTRWA, CoLoNY and CORW members, and $95 for all others.
The workshop explores nine basic personality types and the struggles common to each type; plausible internal and external conflicts; family dynamics; individual priorities; and the believable ways in which characters can overcome their insecurities or past and accomplish their goals.
Ms. Campbell, a frequent speaker at writing conferences around the world, is the author of Believable Characters, hailed as a must-have for fiction writers in all genres. “Every book is always primarily about character,” says Kristan Higgins, a CTRWA member and New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author. “If you don’t care about or understand the motivations and goals of the characters, you won’t keep reading. I first heard Laurie speak just after my first book came out, and it completely changed how I created my characters.”
