As a marketing leader, you also play a vital role in elevating the standard of living. Thanks to government regulations, marketers cannot make false or misleading claims. This means that you help consumers make informed decisions on the basis of marketing. They can be made aware of major changes in ownership or products, what new features are being developed, and which brands to trust. This comes together to create brand value and loyalty towards trusted companies.

At a company level, organizations cannot survive without marketing. You cannot establish a business and expect people to find you. There is simply too much competition and information bombarding society. For businesses to survive and thrive, they have to develop effective marketing strategies. And for this, they need experienced professionals like you with highly creative mindsets.

But it is difficult to contribute in this way to an organization or society if you feel burned out, uncreative, or feel an inability to work at your full potential.

If you feel the same way then this book is for you.

Interview:

Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself!

I’m from Irvine California and I’m the CEO of CareerTuners. For 13 years now I’ve been helping job seekers get their dream job. Me and my team has worked with people across all industries and fields and we help them get excited about their next career move. I’m also a mom to a beautiful baby girl. She’s my pride and joy!

Tell us about your book? How did it get started?

The idea for Resparking Creativity came from me seeing a pattern when working with marketing managers. They would be incredibly talented and capable individuals who were hungry for growth, eager for a promotion, but their creative energy was so low. They felt so bogged down in the daily grind of their job that they didn’t know what to do to get their creative spark back. I worked with those individuals and helped them get their spark back and the director position they were aiming for.

When I’d realized that this was a pattern, I decided that I wanted to write a book about it. Because the more people I can help, the better.

How did you shape your book?

“It was honestly one of the hardest parts about writing this book because there’s so much advice and help you can give to people about their job. So, it was very important to keep a tight focus on what advice we want to give.

When we outlined the book, we had a lot of discussions on what made sense to include, what details would be helpful, stuff like that. We kept coming back to who this book is for (marketing managers) and what they’re going to use it for (to respark their creativity and become a marketing director). Naturally this outline did evolve as the writing happened but ultimately, we kept that big picture in mind.”

What inspires and what got you started in writing?

There are a few things that inspire me. First is my family. I love working hard to make a home for me, my husband, and my daughter. Secondly, a big thing that keeps me energized is how I get to help people improve their lives.

A lot of people that we work with are looking for upward mobility for various reasons. They’re eager for career growth, they want to improve their quality of life, they want to be work in a better culture, etc. At the heart of it all is the fact that everyone basically wants to make a positive change in their career. And that we get to help people do that, is incredibly humbling and amazing.

As for getting started in writing, I think I can attribute that to the fact that my mother was a teacher She’s retired now but just the fact that she was a teacher nudged me towards developing my writing skills.

Where do you write? Is there something you need in order to write (music, drinks?)

I have a little office set up in my home where I do all my work. It’s nothing fancy but it’s very “professional.” I’ve got all my business and reference books in there. It’s a pretty simple setup all things considered but I enjoy having a little corner to myself.

In order to write, I need some tea and snacks. There’s no beating caffeine so, tea is a must. The snacks can vary depending because some days I’ll love snacking on fruit and other days a granola bar.

How do you get your ideas for writing?

I get them from all around me. The people I work with, the recruiters I speak with, the clients we help, etc. A huge part of our work is understanding what problems job seekers are facing when they apply for jobs and then figure out how we can help them. That just means I’m always surrounded by plot bunnies and ideas. The real trick is prioritizing which ideas are realistic and which plot bunnies can be changed into products.

What do you like to read?

I have two main genres when it comes to reading is business books and romance novels. I strive to continuously improve myself and build my knowledge. That’s why I love reading business and leadership books. And romance novels are just fun!

What would your advice to be for authors or aspiring in regards to writing?

To just start writing. As cheesy as it sounds, you just have to start. Even if its ten words a day, start writing whatever idea you’ve got in your head. Don’t worry too much about “but what happens next?” You can figure that out later or you can come back to change things.

You cannot stay stuck in the planning stage because your book will never see the light of day. So, open that Word document and start writing.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I hope that readers pick up my book and feel energized towards taking the career step they’ve been thinking about. I want them to feel empowered about themselves and uniquely capable of getting their dream job.
